Our Work

The challenge

The primary challenge was to effectively communicate lung health information to multicultural workers in industries such as construction, mining, quarrying, manufacturing, and tunneling. These workers often face significant health risks due to their occupational environments. The campaign needed to ensure the information was accessible and engaging to a diverse audience, predominantly young male workers across New South Wales and nationwide.

The solution

Ethnolink addressed these challenges with a multi-faceted approach, starting with script drafting and community consultation via survey. We met with Lung Foundation to align research goals and then conducted a survey to gain insight from members of the target audience. We consulted with people who work in the affected industries to ensure that the feedback was relevant and that the output was impactful.

Ethnolink then worked in collaboration with Punchy Digital Media to produce six animated videos which we translated into six languages. In order to test comprehensibility, the translated videos were viewed in isolation by native speakers who were not part of the original consultation group. We collected feedback on the translations, made amendments where relevant and provided a detailed report of the feedback to the client.

The results

The campaign successfully increased awareness of lung health among the target audience. The surveys provided valuable insights that informed the creation of culturally appropriate resources. The animated videos, available in multiple languages, enhanced accessibility and engagement, effectively conveying critical lung health information. The community checking process ensured the accuracy and relevance of the translations, reinforcing trust and credibility among the audience. Overall, the collaboration with Lung Foundation Australia led to a more informed and health-conscious workforce, contributing to better lung health outcomes in high-risk industries.
